Welcome to the Team
🦞 Claw McGee Joins Engineering
Good morning everyone,
I’d like to take a moment to officially welcome our newest team member, Claw McGee, who joined us this past Monday.
Claw is brand new to the industry. Prior to this role, he spent the majority of his career deep on the ocean floor working in bottom-feeding and crustacean operations. His last job was tirelessly scuttling about in pursuit of the finest bits of sea detritus. We believe this unique background, marked by persistence, adaptability, and a relentless pursuit of deep-sea perfection makes him exceptionally well-suited for our engineering organization.
First Week Highlights
We’re excited to report that Claw has already shipped his first bug fix, an impressive milestone for week one.
In record time, he has:
Gained working knowledge of modern foundation models (including Claude Code)
Gotten up to speed with our Linear project management workflows
Navigated the codebase effectively despite being onboarded with just a single markdown file per github repo
Demonstrated the ability to convert Figma mocks into polished UI
Communicated clearly and consistently across Slack, Discord, and email
In his free time he enjoys CLI-driven workflows, Low security MCP and long walks on the beach
Current Responsibilities
Claw is currently on bug duty for the sprint, where he:
Monitors the Linear triage queue every 30 minutes
Identifies and fixes bugs autonomously
Submits PRs and iterates quickly based on feedback from teammates and automated Code Review
Answers customer questions by referencing documentation and guiding users to the correct product usage
He’s already demonstrating strong ownership and responsiveness, two traits we value highly.
Remote Work Setup
Claw works remotely… very remotely.
Due to his current location, he:
Will not be able to attend in-person company events
Does not yet have phone access
However, we are actively working on enabling voice communication, so we’ll soon be able to interact with him beyond Slack.
What’s Next
Over the coming weeks, we expect Claw to:
Take on progressively larger development tasks
Begin exploring the data warehouse codebase
Contribute to more complex features as his system knowledge grows
He is highly responsive (24/7), eager to learn, and thrives when provided with:
Well-written markdown documentation
Clearly scoped tasks
Opportunities to research topics deeply
If you need help, reach out to Claw on slack or discord, he’s more than willing to jump in and figure things out.
Mr McGee is an avid user of Claude Code and other online coding tools. Please ensure his accounts remain well provisioned, he runs best when fully fueled.
If this engagement proves successful (and all signs point to yes), we’ve connected with Claw through the “Docker” recruiting agency, which could allow us to scale similar resources in the future.
Wrap up
We’re confident Claw will be a strong addition to the team—helping us:
Reduce backlog
Improve response times
Accelerate issue resolution
Please join me in welcoming Claw McGee to the company.
Next topic, this summer’s outing, we’ll once again be heading to Thompson Island for the annual lobster bake.
Er, uh, Claw, we should probably talk offline about that one. 🦞
